Composition and recording of the songs for the Circles and Rings CD began in 1994 shortly after the composing of Temple of Rain and Wishing Well for the Eye of the Storm CD, which greatly influenced the Celtic- new-age style of this CD. Recorded between 1994-1996 and released in 2000, this album is a radical departure from Losfer Words' guitar based sound and features Celtic new-age music. Circles and Rings celebrates the resilient spirit of the Celts (Celtic Sun) in their conflict with Roman invaders. The CD's subject matter also touches on other myths, legendary places and beings including the Twilight of the Norse gods (Norse Skies), and Stonehenge (Circle of Stone). Also included are several instrumentals inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien: a traveling song for the Frodo and his fellow Hobbits (Wondering Around), The Spider's of Mirkwood (The Web), and The Mirror of Galadriel (Wishing Well)
song concepts
Celtic Sun-is a triumphant new age march which celebrates the Celtic resistance to the Roman invaders. The inspiration for this instrumental was a passage from Enya's "How Can I Keep From Singing"
When tyrants tremble in their fear
and hear their death knell ringing,
when friends rejoice both far and near
how can I keep from singing?
Wondering Around- A traveling song, inspired by The Hobbit and the animated movie version of Lord of the Rings.
Winter- Inspired by a forest, covered in snow and ice and glistening with a magnificent, blue-tinted glow, beneath the light of full moon.
Goblin's Ice- An earlier concept of the goblin's in Losfer Words Stygian Odyssey. At the center of a frozen lake lies a forest, island encased in ice in snow. At the heart of the forest is a shrine with a magical artifact you must retrieve. Yet, watch out for the goblin's that guard the shrine, as they encircle about you and peer out from the trees.
Norse Skies- Angelic Valkyrie voices and the clash of cymbals and timpanis sound the final battle of the Norse gods.
Highlander- A lament for fallen warriors sounded on synth bagpipes over the Scottish Highlands.
Dragons and Kings- The slow, battle-field advance of the five armies in J.R.R Tolkien's the Hobbit.
Circle of Stone- Stonhenge at the autumn equinox.
The Web- A Hobbit meets the Spiders of Mirkwood. Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit
Temple of Rain- A place where the rains wash away regrets and the thunder calls you to a new destiny.
Wishing Well- Inspired by the Mirror of Galadriel in J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
